Will Writing

Writing a will is one of the most important things you will ever do and yet seven out of ten people in the UK still die without having a will in place. The Fantastic Funeral Company can help you with the process of putting your affairs in order.

A will is a legal document and deals with all your personal assets such as money, your house, car, household and personal effects. It also deals with any Life Assurance Policies and Pensions. Any outstanding mortgage, loans, credit card balances, household bills etc, are deducted from your estate before the balance is handed to your named beneficiaries.

A will does not deal with health and medical matters as The Fantastic Funeral Company Wish List does.

When writing your will you must appoint an executor. Their role is to ensure your wishes are carried out. Depending on the content of the will you may be advised to have more than one executor. You may choose your husband/wife, children (if they are over 18), other family members or a trusted friend. They can even be a beneficiary of your will. Some of their responsibilities are listed below:

Assessing what property, investments and assets you held.

The valuation of all your valuables.

The collection of all details of debts and the payment of them.

The collection of any pension and other money due.

The transferal of any gifts to your beneficiaries.

You can prepare a will any time after the age of 18 (12 in Scotland). Once it has been signed and witnessed it becomes a legally binding document.

It can however be changed and updated as your circumstances change. A will can be cancelled by simply destroying it and making a new one.

Your will must be kept in a safe place, ideally with The Fantastic Funeral Company Wish List and Funeral Plan. Tell any executors where it is kept and make sure they have access to it upon your death.

“Don't wait. The time will never be just right.”
Napoleon Hill, (1883-1970)
