The
Fantastic Funeral Company Wish List
Planning
helps you, your friends and family to decide what you want to happen
at the end of your life. The Fantastic Funeral Company ‘Wish
List’ was designed after many months of research in conjunction
with the public, departments of Health and Legal services.
Our Wish List document is an attractive alternative to leaving it
to chance or creating very difficult decisions for family and friends
who may be too traumatised to carry out your wishes in the way you
would have chosen.
Our research has indicated that in the absence of planning friends
and relations disagreed about what the deceased may have wanted,
sometimes resulting in an inappropriate funeral. The Fantastic Funeral
Company aims to help you avoid this; by planning, your wishes can
be responded to in the way you have specified.
This research has helped us to produce a comprehensive document
enabling you to make important end of life decisions. The document
covers specifics such as how and where you would like to be cared
for and includes questions about other very personal issues.
Funeral wishes are also addressed in this document. This means a
funeral (your own or that of a loved one) can be arranged exactly
as required. From a choice of coffin, venue, music, poetry and readings,
catering and transport through to the celebration of life itself.
Planning gives you the opportunity to discuss your wishes with family
and friends so everyone has a clear understanding of your requests.
It is also reassuring for family and friends to have the knowledge
that they are carrying out your wishes exactly as you have described.
Research suggests that over half of us have no idea what a friend
or relative would like for their funeral, and 60% of the population
in the UK never discuss their own funeral arrangements.
The
idea of planning one’s own funeral may seem unusual and is
probably something that has not ever been thought about or discussed.
We are meticulous about planning other areas of our lives because
we don’t want to leave situations to chance or ‘hope
for the best’. Whatever your health status it makes sense
to think about planning funeral arrangements; we have no control
over the beginning of our lives so why not control the ending?
Because we have no escaping death and don’t know when we are
going to die this document can be completed at any stage in one’s
life. Before completing the Wish List, we suggest that you discuss
your options with those closest to you. You will need two representatives
to arrange and carry out your wishes and for practical reasons it
may be appropriate to choose friends or family who don’t live
too far away. Anyone you ask must be eighteen or over.
The
section in this document dealing with organ & tissue donation
is a clear guide for you to be explicit about what you want; it
also helps those dealing with your affairs. As the law on donation
has changed it is encouraging to know what is stated here will be
implemented. You also have the opportunity to make choices about
a post mortem and embalming, however, in very specific circumstances
the coroner may have to overrule your wishes.
Once the Wish List is completed it must be witnessed and signed
by two people other than your representatives.
Once completed and signed this document will be implemented as soon
as it becomes necessary. This is only when illness has advanced
to the point that communication is no longer possible.
The Wish List is easy to follow and enables you to say exactly what
you want so you have a dignified end to life. Having this document
in place means those you love won’t have to guess what you
would have wanted. It protects you, your family and friends.
We
recommend that your Wish List is kept with your Last Will and Testament
and that your representatives have copies too.
On admittance to hospital, you must take your Wish List with you
so that it can be kept with your notes.
