Take the following example of a carefully arranged bespoke funeral: Suzanna contacted us four months before she died. She wanted to be very involved in the planning of her funeral and reception afterwards. She said she needed to do so as her cancer was taking over everything else. This is the funeral we created for Suzanna: Using our ‘Time Together’ photography images of her, family and friends decorated the room in her home where the funeral was held. On arrival, forty of Suzanna’s family and friends were given a single cream rose with a cream ribbon tied around its long stem which they placed on top of Suzanna’s cream woollen coffin. Guests listened to the gentle sounds of a flautist playing Suzanna’s favourite tunes and were invited to toast her life with a glass of Dom Perignon. Our Civil Celebrant who had got to know Suzanna well gave a personal, honest and heartfelt tribute. The celebration was intimate, sad and moving. But by contrast, funny anecdotes captured the occasion and were spoken by those closest to her. Fondue, canapés, wine and champagne were consumed before concluding with a dove release in the garden. A private cremation followed for immediate family. Several weeks later we arranged a public memorial celebration for her other friends and those who wanted to remember Suzanna. Designed by a gifted artisan, Suzanna’s ashes have been placed in the internal frame of a memorial oak and ceramic birdbath which remains in her family’s garden.
